
John Stompanato Jr. was born in Woodstock, Illinois. His mother, Carmella was a seamstress. His father John, owned a barber shop. He is best known as a bodyguard and enforcer for gangster Mickey Cohen and the Cohen crime family, and for his abusive relationship with film star Lana Turner.
In 1958, Turner’s daughter, Cheryl Crane, stabbed Stompanato to death to defend her mother from a vicious beating. The death was ruled a justifiable homicide.
He first appears in the 1930 census of Woodstock, Illinois. His family is split on two pages.
